Blanchard B-1

10/31/2010. Remarks by Walter van Tilborg: "This original light flying boat homebuilt type aircraft was designed by Gordon C. Blanchard and had a built-in provision for a simple (beaching) landing gear, which was only suitable for ground handling and this was removed for operations from water. The aircraft featured a mixed wood and composite material construction and was first flown September 15, 1989, powered by one 55 hp Lycoming O-145-A four-cylinder horizontally-opposed air-cooled engine.

The type was initially not intended for marketing for amateur construction and only a single aircraft was built. At a later stage plans of the designer called for the installation of a retractable type landing gear and a bubble canopy, but almost certainly these were never fitted."
