Fokker F.XVIII

07/07/2007. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This aircraft was the first of five ordered by KLM for service to the Dutch East Indies, and was registered on July 12, 1932. In 1935 KLM opened a network in the West Indies and the Oehoe (Owl) arrived at Curaçao on July 10. The same year the aircraft was damaged on take off from Aruba and shipped to the Netherlands for repairs.

Returning to the West Indies the PH-AIO registration was cancelled in the Netherlands on March 16, 1936. The aircraft was subsequently registered PJ-AIO in the West Indies, being renamed Oriol. Impressed into Dutch military service between May 1940 and January 1942, the aircraft was finally withdrawn from use on July 25, 1946."
