Remarks by Dan Shumaker: "Paraphrased from 'Piper Aircraft' by Roger Pepperell: The Sky Sedan was envisioned in 1944 as one of several post-war offerings. It was a fabric covered development of the PT-1 Trainer, with metal framed fuselage and wings. The prototype, NX580, first flew in March 1946. A second all-metal aircraft was built and scrapped after the landing gear failed. The tail from the second aircraft was fitted to the PA-23 experimental aircraft. The Sky Sedan was cancelled although six Schweizer-built production fuselages had been delivered." |
