Stinson 76 L-5 Sentinel

01/31/2011. Remarks by Walter van Tilborg: "During the mid-1950s Wayne Clevenger and his Clevenger Aircraft Co. developed a single-seat agplane conversion of surplus Stinson L-5 observation and liaison aircraft.

The conversion involved a modified rear cabin to accommodate a chemical hopper, the removal of the rear cabin windows and the aircraft was changed into a (strutted wing) biplane, with the lower wings coming from Luscombe Model 8A Silvaire aircraft.

The Clevenger L-5 was powered by a 220 hp Continental W-670 seven-cylinder air-cooled radial engine (alternatively with a Lycoming R-680 nine-cylinder radial), replacing the original Lycoming O-435 six-cylinder horizontally-opposed air-cooled engine as used in the L-5.

The first modified aircraft, also known as the Clevenger L-5, flew around 1952 and reportedly up to some 20 aircraft may have been produced. Known registrations are:
