Albatros L-37 D.IX

06/30/2009. The D.IX featured a slab-sided, flat-bottomed fuselage, a far cry from the previous good-looking streamlined Albatros designs. Powered by an 180 hp Daimler D IIIa engine, the D.IX had wings and tail surfaces similar to those of the D.VII, while it was fitted with twin synchronized 0.312 in (7.92 mm) LMG 08/15 machine guns. The sole prototype appeared in early January 1918, proving disappointing performance, development was discontinued after a wing failure on January 18, 1918.
