Airco D.H.9A

09/30/2016. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The pictured D.H.9A was one of a batch of 21 aircraft ordered on Contract No. 602586/25 from Westland in 1925. Serialed J7799 to J7819, these were all powered by a 400 hp Packard Liberty 12A engine. J7818 is wearing markings of RAF No. 39 Squadron to which it was allotted at RAF Spittlegate, near Grantham, Lincolnshire, between June 1926 and January 1927.

Subsequently the aircraft was transferred to the RAF Packing Depot Ascot, Berkshire, where it was crated and then shipped to RAF Aircraft Depot Aboukir, some 10 mls (16 km) north-east of downtown Alexandria, Egypt. Till late 1929 it was used by RAF No. 4 Flight Training School at RAF Station Abu Sueir, some 10 mls (16 km) west of Ismailia. From January till November 1930 the aircraft served with RAF No. 55 Squadron Training Flight at RAF Station Hinaidi, 5 mls (8 km) south-east of downtown Baghdad, Iraq."
