07/07/2007. Remarks by Dan Shumaker: "This was the very first aircraft designed and built by the Beech Aircraft Company, and flew for the first time on November 4, 1932. It was sold to the Ethyl Corporation, and flown by E.H. Wood at the Miami Air Race in January 1933, it captured the Texaco Trophy.

NC499N, still on the register as of this day, restored and owned by the Staggerwing Museum Foundation, is the only surviving example of the four fixed landing gear "Staggerwings" that were produced (the Beech 17 was nicknamed "Staggerwing"):
