Bell 27 P-59A Airacomet

07/31/2016. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The second of twenty P-59As (serials 44-22609 to 44-22628) produced for the USAAF, this P-59A-1-BE was assigned to the 412th Fighter Group, which conducted testing experimental aircraft. Subsequently it was transferred to the USAAF Cold Weather Test Laboratory at Ladd AAF, near Fairbanks, Alaska, becoming the first jet plane to land in Alaska.

It was named "Smokey Stover" after the American comic strip character. The aircraft was salvaged by the War Assets Corporation in June 1946."
