de Havilland D.H.112 Venom NF.Mk.2

02/28/2010. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "There was a need to bridge the gap between the Vampire Night Fighter and the late arrival of the more complex Gloster Javelin. The Venom was therefore adapted as an interim measure by lengthening the wooden fuselage nacelle to accommodate two crew side-by-side and AI radar in the nose.

First flight of the private venture prototype was from Hatfield on August 22, 1950, carrying the 'Class B' marking G-5-3, and it was adopted by the RAF as the Venom NF.Mk.2. Only No. 23 Squadron at Coltishall was equipped with this aircraft, as it suffered a high accident rate and without ejector seats the crew had difficulty in escaping, particularly at low level."
