01/22/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "In 1947, the US Army Air Forces accepted 28 Bell Model 47A helicopters as YR-13-BEs. Ten of these helicopters were subsequently transferred to the US Navy as HTL-1s for evaluation purposes. The Navy then transferred two to the US Coast Guard which based them at Coast Guard Air Station New York, New York (Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn). The Coast Guard used them for anti-smuggling, sabotage, harbor pollution and other maritime crimes in New York harbor. One of the Coast Guard HTL-1s crashed in December 1952 and the second was disposed of in January 1955." |
