Sikorsky S-62A HH-52A Sea Guard

01/22/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "The HH-52A was designed and built specifically for the USCG which ordered 99 of them with deliveries beginning in January 1963.

This helicopter was fully amphibious and designed for SAR missions. The bottom of the fuselage is watertight and strengthened to permit landings on either water or snow and there are two outrigger floats, mounted forward and well away from the fuselage to resist pitching and rolling during touchdown or while at rest on the water. The HH-52A, with over 15,000 lives saved in its 25-years of service, has the honor of having rescued more persons than any other helicopter in the world.

This helicopter was accepted by the USCG in 1964 with s/n 1394 and flown to Port Angeles, Washington, for its first duty station at USCG Air Station Annette Island, Alaska. Over the next 25-years it would serve at various locations the last being CGAS Chicago, Illinois. The Mid-Atlantic Air Museum accepted the aircraft in July 1989 and it was restored to flying condition. It has been seen at numerous air shows in the USA."
