02/28/2011. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This Douglas Model DC-2-173 was one of two ordered by the USAAC on February 8, 1936 as YC-34s but were later redesignated C-34s. Delivered in March and April 1936, both were assigned to the 1st Staff Squadron at Bolling Field, Washington, D.C., and were acquired for use as a staff transport for the Secretary of War.

The first aircraft was C-34, 36-345, c/n 1414 and was delivered on April 25, 1936. It crashed on January 3, 1943 at Hendricks Field, Sebring, Florida.

The second aircraft was C-34, 36-346, c/n 1415 and was delivered on March 1, 1936. It crashed on December 29, 1942 at Brookley Field, Mobile, Alabama."
