North American NA-164 YF-95A

09/30/2008. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The F-86D all-weather interceptor featured an afterburner, all rocket armament and most distinctively a lowered nose intake to provide room for the search radar radome. These changes led to the new YF-95A designation and the first of two prototypes, s/n 50-577 and 50-578, was flown on December 22, 1949.

The YF-95A was the world's first single-seat all-weather interceptor, however, for budgetary and political reasons the designation was changed to YF-86D in July 1950.
