Hawker Sea Fury FB.Mk.51

01/31/2021. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Built under license by Fokker, this aircraft was taken on charge by the RNethN on January 3, 1952, initially operated by No. 860 Squadron of the MLD, later by No. 3 Squadron. Just over five years later, April 18, 1957, the aircraft was withdrawn from use.

In 1959 the aircraft was bought by the Technische Hogeschool (Technical College, presently Technical University) at Delft, the Netherlands, for its Aviation Department. In March 1971 it was donated to the National Aviation Museum which opened that year a newly built housing. Named Aviodome, it had an eye-catching futuristic dome, it was the first geodesic dome in Europe, and for a long time the largest aluminum dome in the world.

From October 13, 1993, this Sea Fury was loaned to the MLM (Militaire Luchtvaart Museum, Military Aviation Museum) at Kamp van Zeist near Soesterberg AFB, MLM became the owner in 2008. MLM closed its doors on June 30, 2013, and the collection was stored. Most of it, including the Sea Fury, reappeared in the newly formed Nationaal Militair Museum, which was opened on December 11, 2014, in a new building at the former Soesterberg AFB (decommissioned November 12, 2008).
