Avia BH-11

08/31/2007. Remarks by Nico Braas and Franz Wegman: "This aircraft was original a Czech built BH-11 fitted with a radial engine. Initially it was registered in Switzerland in 1929 as CH-230. In 1934 Switzerland changed its registration system from CH- to HB- and CH-230 became HB-ORI.

Shortly after WW II it was extensively modified and flown by Jules Schmid. It was for some time used for glider towing at a Swiss gliding club. It was lost in a crash at Segelfluggelände Denkingen, Klippeneck, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, in 1952, and was subsequently cancelled from the Swiss Aircraft Register. During her career in Switzerland ownership and base of HB-ORI changed several times.

Jules died quite a number of years ago according his nephew Walter Schmid, who still is an active glider pilot, greatly inspired by his uncle Jules."
