Fairey Firefly AS.Mk.7

07/07/2007. Remarks by Charles Mac Kay: "WJ215 was first flown on May 22, 1951 and was delivered to the RN on June 29, 1951. It was to be used as an interim ASW aircraft pending the introduction of the Fairey Gannet. The aircraft never flew in this role and ended its days as a trainer at Hal Far in Malta and as a target for the Fireflash beam guided missile in the 1950s. It was very pretty decked out in yellow and orange; it was struck off charge on July 17, 1953. Many AS.Mk.7s were delivered by Fairey straight to the scrap heap, sad ending for an exciting aeroplane."
