01/22/2007. Remarks by
Jack
McKillop: "This aircraft was delivered to the Dutch airline
KLM as a Model 380-48 Convair-Liner on April 29, 1954, registered
PH-CGA and named 'Jan van Eijck'. It was converted to a Model 440-48
by adding improved soundproofing and an option of weather radar.
After conversion, it was to be sold to Hawaiian Airlines with
registration N5513K but they canceled the order and it was sold to
Sears Roebuck & Co of Chicago, Illinois, USA, on August 15, 1959 and
re-registered N9730. Sears sold the aircraft in November 1971 and it
passed through several companies registered N1PC and N3HH. In
September 1985, it was leased to Canada's Air Caledonia for a month
and registered C-GTVU. Returned to the USA owner, it again passed
through a number of owners until withdrawn from use and stored at
Roswell, New Mexico in July 1998."
