08/04/2003. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "Originally designed as a 30-passenger transport for Trans Canada Air Lines but they backed out when the desired turbojet engines could not be obtained from the UK. The first flight of this four jet aircraft occurred at Malton Airport, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on August 10, 1949.
Test flights continued into 1950 and the aircraft was demonstrated to various Canadian and US Airlines and both the RCAF and USAF. Subsequent tests revealed that the aircraft was not acceptable because the fuel consumption was too high and the wing and engine nacelles produced high drag. The C-102 program was discontinued in December 1951.
Hughes Aircraft leased the C-102 in the summer of 1952 to test electronic equipment in California, and it was then used in Canada as an observation platform during the testing of the Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck. The last flight was made on November 23, 1956 and it was scrapped in December 1956. View also photo 2420, 3006 and 9300."
