Douglas DC-3C

02/28/2011. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This Douglas Model DC-3A-360 was ordered by the USAAF and delivered as C-47-DL s/n 41-18362 on May 28, 1942. It served in the USA until May 1, 1943 when it was transferred to the Caribbean Wing of the Air Transport Command (ATC). In August 1943, Pan American Airways crews began flying this aircraft on behalf of the ATC.

After WW II ended, this aircraft was declared surplus and transferred to the Reconstruction and Finance Corp. at Cal-Aero Field, Chino, California. The aircraft was purchased by the US airline Western Airlines of Los Angeles, California and the C-47 was converted to a DC-3C registered NC56589. On October 20, 1948, it was sold to Bonanza Air Lines of Las Vegas, Nevada and on June 17, 1950, it was sold to West Coast Airlines of Seattle, Washington.

The US registration was canceled on July 21, 1964 when this aircraft was sold to the Uruguayan airline PLUNA (Primeras Líneas Uruguayas de Navegación Aérea) in Montevideo and registered CX-BDF. It was scrapped for spare parts in 1972."
