10/31/2007. Remarks by Ron Dupas: "Manufactured in 1946, ex US Navy 122629. listed as Racer number "77". World's piston engine speed record holder: 528.33 mph (850.26 kmh), set on August 21, 1989, and the 9,842.49 ft (3,000 m) time-to-climb record of 91.9 seconds. The aircraft is powered by a 4000 hp Wright R-3350. The aircraft didn't race in 2006 due to a blown piston and had a brand-new paint scheme in 2007."
