On September 4, 1922, he flew in 22 hours and 35 minutes from Pablo Beach, Florida to San Diego, California, including a 1 hour and 16 minutes refueling stop at Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross with this flight."
