44-8152 was named Miss Ida, a lead bomber of the 748th Squadron, 457th
Bomb Group. Its ball turret had been replaced by radar. On April 5,
1945, an engine fire shortly after take-off resulted in a crash near
the end of the runway. The fuel and bombs on board exploded, only one
crew member survived. |
