12/31/2007. One of five built, the first flew conventionally on
September 29, 1964 and on January 11, 1965, the first transitional
flight was made: vertical takeoff with wing in vertical position,
forward flight by rotating the wing in horizontal position, and
vertical landing by rotating the wing back to vertical position.
The pictured aircraft was transferred to the NASA, coded 522, and is
presently preserved at the USAF Museum, Dayton, Ohio.
