Druine D.6 Condor

12/15/2021. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The Condor two-seat sport aircraft was initially intended by Avions Roger Druine as a factory-built aircraft, but only the UK firm of Rollason Aircraft & Engines Ltd. produced a series of these machines. Additional aircraft were completed as amateur-built projects.

D.60 Condor: Two prototypes were built by designer Roger Druine, both aircraft initially had an Italian 60 hp CNA D4 engine.

The first Condor (c/n 01) was first flown in November 1954, registered F-BBIX. This aircraft was later re-engined with a 65 hp Continental A65-8F. On August 3, 1971, it came on the Fox-Papa amateur register as F-PBIX, designated Druine-Fradon D.60 Condor. Last owners were Renaud Jean and Philippe Archambaud from May 27, 2014 on, the aircraft was stationed at La Réole Floudes Airport, some 30 mls (48 km) south-east of Bordeaux.

The second prototype (c/n 02) was built in 1955 and was flown with the experimental registration F-WHLL, this was changed to F-PHLL after it received its CofA in April 1956. The aircraft was delivered to the Aero Club Louis Breguet at Aerodrome Persan-Beaumont near Paris on September 14, 1956. It was re-engined the following January with a more powerful engine (65 or 75 hp Continental A65 or A75) and was redesignated D.61. After two subsequent owners, F-PHLL was registered to Eugène Martin at Chelles near Paris on January 11, 1973. In September 1975 Martin re-engined the aircraft with a 90 hp Continental C90-14F, since the aircraft is listed in the French register only as a Druine-Martin. The aircraft is also still referred to by its previous designation, Druine D.61 Condor, while on the tail of the aircraft is shown Druine D.6 Condor. After another two subsequent owners Michel Cousinou at Persan became the last owner on November 29, 1985.

D.61 Condor: The basic version for amateur construction with a 65 hp Continental A65 or 75 hp Continental A75 engine. The third Condor (c/n 3) to be completed represented this model, registered F-BBIZ it was first flown in 1956. On February 24, 1965, it came on the Fox-Papa amateur register as F-PBIZ. Last owner became Christian Chavignaud at Aérodrome d'Étampes-Mondésir on September 25, 1983.

D.62 Condor: Very similar to the D.61 model, but with one more powerful 90 hp Continental C90. The D.62 designation also applied to a prototype built by Rollason Aircraft & Engines Ltd in the UK.

D.62A, D.62B and D.62C: Read the remarks of these Rollason-built versions on page 6112.

D.63: This homebuilt was developed and constructed by André Merville, president of the Société des Hélices G. Merville at Boulogne, a well-known French propeller manufacturer. The aircraft was basically a more powerful derivative of the Druine D.60 Condor with also a nosewheel landing gear, modified fin and a French 105 hp Potez 4E-20 engine.
