Kestrel KL-1A

01/15/2019. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Former Cessna Sales Manager Donald 'Don' L. Stroud formed Kestrel Aircraft Company at Norman, Oklahoma, USA, in 1991. He used CAD to design the four/six-seat utility aircraft KL-1A, which was constructed from graphite composites. Power plant was an 160 hp Lycoming O-320-D2G engine driving a two-bladed propeller. The prototype was rolled-out on April 21, 1995, registered N960KA on November 8, received its CofA on November 17 and first flew on November 19, 1995. Production was planned in eleven different models, however, none of these materialized. The sole aircraft, also referred to as the proof of concept aircraft, was cancelled from the register on August 7, 2013 as 'expired'.

Worthy mentioning is the building of a mockup of the military version KL-1C. This version would have observation windows at floor level and provision for underwing armament. The mockup was finished with on the left side the title "AIR FORCE", a USAF logo, the fake tail number 501014 and the fake military designation U-29A. On the right side it wore the title "BORDER PATROL", a sort of government logo and the fake registration N154BP. Another published registration, N780HP, was not issued to a Kestrel aircraft."
