Waco AGC-8

03/15/2020. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Fitted with a 300 hp Jacobs L-6 seven-cylinder air-cooled radial engine, this aircraft was built as a model AGC-8 by the Waco Aircraft Company of Troy, Ohio on September 24, 1938. Registered NC2334 it was sold to Lockheed's subsidiary Vega Airplane Company of Burbank, California, which used it as a flying test bed for the 260 hp Menasco Buccaneer six-cylinder air-cooled inverted in-line engine, the aircraft wearing the experimental registration NX2334.

Subsequently the aircraft was purchased by Howard Hughes for his mechanic, Glenn E. Odekirk, who was the builder of the Hughes R-1 Racer. A new 350 hp Wright R-760-E2 seven-cylinder air-cooled radial engine was installed in the aircraft by Odekirk in September 1943, the aircraft was redesignated EGC-8, the 'X' was dropped from the registration.

By the late 1960s the aircraft was aircraft was owned by Eldon Brezair of Tarkio, Missouri. The aircraft was damaged at Fairfax Airport, Kansas City, Kansas in 1968 and was parked in the open, sustaining more damage by wind. In 1972 Gordon Bourland of Fort Worth, Texas bought the aircraft and trailered it back to Texas, where the aircraft went into a long-term restoration, ending in a second first flight by Bourland on December 4, 1979. Bourland flew the restored aircraft to Oshkosh in July 1980 and was awarded the Contemporary Age, Outstanding Closed Cockpit award.

Presently the aircraft is owned by Kenneth McBride of San Martin, California."
