M-1

04/15/2018. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Thanks to Graham Summers from the UK and Michael Sender from Israel for informing us (within a couple of days) about the identity of this aircraft, which has been unknown to us for sixteen years!

Pavel Morozov from Moscow was an experienced designer who had built several cars before designing and building his first aircraft. The M-1 two-seat amphibian appeared at a display at Myachkovo in July 2001. It was powered by an inverted six-cylinder Walter engine and the hull was converted from a motor-boat. The aircraft was flown quite often but showed a number of shortcomings, including excessive weight, insufficient aerodynamic and hydrodynamic performance, and durability, as shown by the photo above, in 2003 it had even further deteriorated.

Remarkable is the operating system for the main landing gear legs. They rotate 90° forward, winched up by two steel-wires sliding into tubes on top of the fuselage. Lowering is by gravity, unrolling the wires rotates the landing gear legs down till they slide into a gaff. There seems to be no locking device, see this photo collage."
