Curtiss CW-20B-2 C-46D Commando

01/31/2011. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This Curtiss Model CW-20B-2 was produced for the USAAF as a C-46D-5-CU under the s/n 44-77424, and was delivered on November 16, 1944. In 1949 it was transferred to the USAF Reserve, with the outbreak of the Korean War the following year, the aircraft operated in Korea and Japan. Five years later it was transferred to the Japan Air Self Defense Force with the s/n 51-1101. Subsequently it was withdrawn from use and stored.

In 1980 it was sold to the USA, where it was registered to Alaska Rental & Sales as N5579Z. Later it was acquired by the USAF Museum in exchange for a C-118, and on October 11, 1986, it was consigned to the Hurlburt Air Park Museum, which is dedicated to Special Operations aircraft."
