05/15/2006. Remarks by Bob McLeod: "The CF-104 made an emergency landing in Lahr, Germany with problems that were traced to a contaminated hydraulic system. Rather than send crews to Lahr from Baden to work on the aircraft, a deal was struck up with the Skycrane pilot, who had been flying in Vietnam, to fly her 'home'. Some problems were encountered because the CF-104 wanted to spin but as forward speed was increased the plane cocked into the wind and the trip was uneventful. Many tales were received about the CF-104 and the Skycrane flying in formation because people on the ground could not see the sling. I believe this is the one and only time that an event like this occured." |
