Aérospatiale N 262D-51

03/31/2022. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "In 1964, the French AF acquired the prototype of the model 262, which was first flown on December 24, 1962, followed by three 262As in 1968/1969. These aircraft were built by the state-owned Nord-Aviation, which company received an order for 24 additionally aircraft with military interior and equipment. Based on the model 262C, these 24 aircraft were designated model 262D-51.

On October 8, 1969, the French Counsel of Ministers decided that Nord-Aviation would merge with Sud-Aviation and SERAB (a ballistic missiles company) on January 1, 1970, into SNA (Société Nationale Aérospatiale), in January this was changed to SNIA (Société Nationale Industrielle Aérospatiale), finally simply changed into Aérospatiale.

The first 262 series aircraft under the new company name was the pictured aircraft, the prefix 'N' referred to the original company. Registered to Aérospatiale as F-ZJYV, it was first flown on April 15, 1970, on July 22, 1970 it was delivered to the French AF, serialed 64. For civil operations it had allotted the registration F-SDIT, this was changed to F-RBAA in 1977, the last two characters are shown on the fuselage. The aircraft was withdrawn from use in 2001, twenty years later it was broken up."
