03/31/2008. Remarks by Jack McKillop: The P-1 Hawk was a production version of the Curtiss XPW-8 fitted with a 435 hp Curtiss D-12 V-1150-1 twelve-cylinder, two bank, liquid cooled, vee engine. It was the first pursuit aircraft designated under the May 1924 designation system. Fifteen P-1s were ordered but the last five were delivered as P-2s with a different engine. The first P-1 was delivered to the USAAC on August 17, 1925." |
