Friedrichshafen FF 31

07/31/2014. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Flugzeugbau Friedrichshafen built only two examples of the FF 31, they were delivered in May 1915, serialed 274 and 275. The type was a reconnaissance aircraft designed also to carry bombs. As the machine was required to have a free field of fire in a forward direction, the 160 hp Maybach IR engine was placed in the rear of the nacelle and drove a pusher airscrew. The radiator was behind the pilot, who occupied the rear seat, while the observer with his moveable Parabellum machine gun was placed in the front. The aircraft had remarkable short floats, hence a tail float was fitted."
