de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver Mk.I

Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Built in 1948 this Beaver was the first of the type being exported, it went to South Africa and was registered as ZS-DCG in November 1948. In October 1951 it appeared at the British register as G-ARTR. That registration was cancelled in August 1964 as the aircraft was sold to New Zealand where it first flew registered as ZK-CKH on December 16, 1964. After changing ownership a few times it was acquired by the New Zealand Warbirds for preservation. It was still on the register in June 2006.

The aircraft is wearing the colour scheme of the sole Beaver of the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF). The original NZ6001 was purchased with privately raised funds for the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic expedition in the late fifties. Named 'City of Auckland' it entered service in 1956 but the serial was changed into NZ6010 in 1959 when it became clear that the NZ6001 had previously been used for the sole Gloster Meteor of the RNZAF."
