06/30/2006. Remarks by Malcolm Lowe: "During the summer of 2005 the Czech Air Force retired its final MiG-21 single-seat fighter/tactical aircraft and two-seat trainers. I was privileged to be able to photograph the official retirement of one of these aircraft, two-seat MiG-21UM ‘9332’ during May 2005. The aircraft was flown from its base at Caslav to the Czech Republic’s Letecké Muzeum (Aviation Museum) at Kbely airfield, just outside Prague, where I took this picture as the aircraft was being readied to be moved to the Museum's parking area having just arrived by air. The aircraft had previously operated with the Czech Air Force’s 211.tl at Caslav, which was the final unit to operate the MiG-21. This aircraft was built in 1980 and served all its life with the Czechoslovak, later Czech, Air Force. It is now one of the many fine exhibits at the Aviation Museum at Kbely, where it is on display in an outside line-up of various MiG types in what is unofficially called ‘MiG Alley’." |
