Remarks by Bernhard Klein: "Between July 1 and August 21, 1933, 24 S.55Xs flying boats made a round-trip flight from Rome, Italy to the Century of Progress World's Fair in Chicago, Illinois, USA, under the leadership of General Italo Balbo, the Italian Air Minister. The outward journey of 6,065 mls (9,761 km) was accomplished in 48 hr 45 min. The longest (1,500 mls, 2,414 km) leg was between Reykjavik, Iceland, and Cartwright, Labrador, Canada, and the flight ended on Lake Michigan near Burnham Park.

The photo, taken on or directly after August 21, 1933, is showing 18 S.55Xs back at their home base at Orbetello, Italy. Note some of the crews standing on the wings."
