Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIC

12/31/2007. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This Hurricane was first flown January 1, 1943. After service with 63, 309 (Polish) and 26 Squadrons it served at Biggin Hill with 41 OTU until August 1951. In June 1957 it was transferred to the RAF Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight and was for many years painted as Group Captain Douglas Bader's 242 Squadron aircraft. After an engine failure it crashed at RAF Wittering on September 11, 1991. Rebuilt it flew again in September 1998.

The second aircraft in this photo was the last Hurricane built, s/n PZ865. It is finished in the markings of Squadron Leader Robert "Bob" Stanford Tuck (one of the leading British aces) while flying with No. 257 Fighter Squadron, late 1940-early 1941. What seems to be a white line below the canopy is a row of over 21 swastika victory markings. Both aircraft have their wing guns removed."
