Remarks by Andy Heins: "This is my brother's Waco...only surviving example. Built especially for the 1930 Ford Air Tour, a 4,800 mls (7,725 km) transcontinental race. Waco won in 1928 and 1929 and built two CRG's to win in 1930 and gain permanent possession of the Edsel B. Ford Trophy. Ford changed the rules in 1930 so that only a Ford Trimotor could only win. It did, and the two CRG's placed second and third respectively, ours (NC600Y) being flown by Johnny Livingston and the other (NC660Y) being flown by Art Davis." |
