Junkers Ju 52/3m

12/31/2011. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This "Tante Ju" ("Aunt Ju"), as the Ju 52/3m was nicknamed, was abandoned at the Italian AF airfield Castel Benito. It was originally assigned to III./K.G.z.b.V.1 (Kampfgeschwader zur besonderen Verwendung, battle wing for special purposes) which operated in 1942 from Sicily, Italy. The Ju 52/3m is fitted with a flexible mounted machine gun in a glass Condor-Haube (Condor-Cupola) in the center of the glass cockpit roof.

Castel Benito was captured by British forces on January 23, 1943, presently it is Tripoli International Airport."
