Bell 206 OH-4A

08/31/2006. Remarks by David Hatcher: "This was the Bell entry into the Light Observation Helicopter or 'LOH' competition conducted in 1962. Although the Hughes (Model 369) OH6 was selected, Bell continued with the development of the Model 206 Jet Ranger and all the derivatives into a success. In 1968, the Army bought this as the OH58 and continued its development into the Kiowa Warrior.

The Joe Baugher's website website, referencing a 1987 article in 'Flypast' magazine indicates that this aircraft may be mis-marked and is really 62-4202. However, the data plate is intact in the aircraft, identifying this airframe as a Model 206, Serial Number 4, Customer Model OH-4A with Serial Number 62-4201. Furthermore, the fuselage data (numbers painted on the side of the aircraft) were taped over when the aircraft received a cosmetic restoration at some time in the past. The aircraft also displays a radio call placard on the instrument panel as '24201'.

The aircraft is currently in non-display storage at the Army Aviation Museum, in building 01020 at Fort Rucker. It is very dirty and has received quite a bit of 'hanger rash' from being moved around so much." View also the History
