Avro 683 Lancaster Mk.10AR

03/31/2013. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Built by Victory Aircraft at Malton, Ontario, Canada as a Lancaster B.Mk.X, this aircraft first flew on September 2, 1944. On January 1, 1945 it went to the UK, to return to Canada on June 10, 1945. Subsequently it was one of three converted to the Lancaster Mk.10AR Arctic Reconnaissance variant, fitted with an extended nose and rear observation windows.

On June 18, 1963, this aircraft dropped a "time capsule" at the North Pole, the following year it was withdrawn from service and went to RCAF Station Greenwood, Nova Scotia, where it since is preserved at the Greenwood Military Aviation Museum."
