Vickers 802 Viscount

03/31/2012. Ordered by British European Airways (BEA) in 1955, this was the 21st production 800 series Viscount built, and the 19th 802 Viscount for BEA. Registered G-AOHT, it first flew on June 20, 1957 at Weybridge, Surrey, UK, and was delivered to BEA on July 3, 1957, named 'R.M.A. Ralph Fitch'. On July 31, 1973 it was transferred to British Airways after BEA had merged into British Airways. In April 1980 it was withdrawn from service and stored at Rhoose, Cardiff, Wales.

A year later, July 17, 1981, it was sold to British Air Ferries (BAF) and named 'Carol'. On September 29, 1981 it was wet leased to Aqua Avia Society, being briefly registered ZK-SKY in New Zealand during October. The aircraft was not operated in New Zealand, and returned to BAF in December 1981. That month it was leased to Bouraq Indonesia Airlines, still registered G-AOHT, it returned to BAF on March 31, 1982. It was leased to Polar Airways on August 6, 1982, and purchased by Polar Airways on March 1, 1983.

Only three weeks later, March 22, it was leased back to BAF, two months later, May 1983, Polar Airways ceased all operations but the aircraft continued operating with BAF on the control of the trustees of the defunct Polar Airways. May 1, 1984 it was returned to the trustees of the Polar Airways and immediately sold to Euroair Transport. In September 1984 it was leased to British Airways for one month, and then briefly to Tunisavia.

Subsequently it was leased to Virgin Atlantic Airways from April 1, 1985 till August 5, 1985, and immediately sold to BAF (again). The following year, May 16, 1986, the CofA expired, and July 1987 the aircraft was withdrawn from use and stored at Rochford, Essex, subsequently it was cannibalized and in March 1991 it was finally broken up, although the registration was not cancelled till July 21, 1994.
