Farman 1910 Michelin Cup Biplane

12/31/2013. Remarks by Kees Kort: "The postcard shows a Henri Farman design specially built for the Michelin Cup of 1910.

This was a special long distance version of the standard configuration Henri Farman, with longer wings (more wing area) and extra large tanks – 61 gal (230 l) fuel and 21 gal (80 l) oil. Total estimated endurance was twelve hours. The seat for the pilot was made somewhat more comfortable by a short enclosed hull, older models were completely open with the pilot seating upright on the edge of the wing full in the wind and cold.

Henri Farman made his record flight with this machine on December 18, 1910 and made an endurance record of 8 hr 12 min, winning the Michelin Cup 1910 for endurance flight."
