Boeing 717-148 KC-135A

09/30/2010. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "In 1960 two KC-135A KC-135A Stratotankers were delivered to the FAA, which modified them for use to check air routes and navigation aids throughout the USA.

N98 was built under the USAF serial 59-1481 and was delivered to the USAF on May 20, 1960, the same day the aircraft was transferred to the FAA and registered N98. It served with the FAA till 1973, when it was transferred to the NASA as N930NA.

Named 'Weightless Wonder IV' it became one of NASA's infamous "Vomit Comet" zero-gravity simulator aircraft. After 23 years it was retired in 1995 and presently serves as a gate guard at NASA's Ellington Field, Houston, Texas. The other FAA KC-135A was ex USAF 59-1518."
