Douglas B-26C Invader

02/28/2016. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Constructed as an A-26C by Douglas at Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, this aircraft was delivered to the USAAF under the serial 44-35696 in May 1945. Converted to a B-26B it was assigned to the 17th Bomb Wing, 95th Bomb Squadron at Pusan in Korea and flew more than 100 missions in the Korean War. During this period the aircraft was named My Mary Lou. On April 6, 1954, it was transferred to the French AF wth the serial 44-35696, being based in Indochina on July 2, 1954. After the Korean War it was returned to the USAF and reassigned to the 17th Bomb Wing, 34th Bomb Squadron. Subsequently it served briefly with the Louisiana ANG, and in 1957 was put into storage at the MASDC.

In 1963 it came on the civil registry as N8036E and had as subsequent owners: L.B. Smith Aircraft Corp. of Miami, Florida (1963); Richard B. Almour of Tucson (1964-1966); William E. Strader of Fresno, California (1966-1977); Dwight Reimer, Shafter, California (1979-1981) who flew it marked as Cotton Jenny (Racer number "26") at pylon races at Mojave, California, in 1978 and 1979. By 1984 it was owned by Courtesy Aircraft Inc. at Rockford, Illinois.

On September 30, 1985, this aircraft was registered to the Collings Foundation of Stow, Massachusetts. By 1990 it had the military markings applied that it wore during the Korean War and it was named Mighty Mouse as shown on the nose. Subsequently the original nose markings of the Korean War, My Mary Lou, were reapplied. On June 22, 1993, the aircraft crashed at Kankakee, Illinois, due to an engine failure on take off, the pilot and single passenger received minor injuries, the aircraft was substantially damaged. Subsequently the damaged aircraft was stored at several locations, but presently it is under restoration at Uvalde, Texas."
