09/30/2012. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Registered NX799W this Orion was delivered during the early autumn of 1934 to the Evening News Association and was operated by The Detroit News. It was specially fitted with broadcasting equipment and a glass domed camera pod on the left wing leading edge. To aim the camera the pilot was provided with a primitive grid-like gun sight on top of his windshield (site files).

In June 1942 it was acquired from Arthur D. Knapp by the Defense Supplies Corporation and was impressed into the USAAF under the designation UC-85 and serial 42-62601. It was released in September 1944 and took up the registration NC799W. After an accident at Los Angeles it was scrapped in November 1944. Note the pilot waving from the cockpit."
