Douglas DC-4-1009

02/28/2011. Remarks by Alfred Damen: "To augment their ex C-54 fleet, KLM ordered four DC-4s. The pictured example was first flown on April 12, 1946 and delivered to the airline on April 25, fourteen days later, May 8, it was named Rotterdam. After two years of service on the longer European routes, the aircraft was transferred to KLM's West Indies Division, and was reregistered PJ-TAR on February 11, 1948.

It was returned to Holland on December 3, 1948, again as PH-TAR, and ten days later it was sold to the Spanish airline Iberia, registered as EC-AEK. It was leased to Aviaco in June 1966 and returned in 1968. On February 24, 1969, Iberia sold the aircraft to Dominicana de Aviación of the Dominican Republic, where it was registered as HI-169. It was withdrawn from use in 1975 and subsequently broken up."
