Stearman C-3R Business Speedster

05/31/2008. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This was the first of 38 C-3Rs manufactured between August 1929 and October 1931, and was retained by the manufacturer till it was sold to Hanfords Tri-State Airlines (Sioux City, Iowa) in 1932, it was used for mail contract between 1934 and 1936. In 1936 it was sold to the later famous (aerial) photographer Speed Hanzlik.

In 1927 Hanzlik had opened Speed's Airport, New York City, New York, that eventually became Flushing Airport (once New York's busiest airport), it was closed in 1984. The aircraft remained with Hanzlik till 1970, subsequently it was owned by Perrotti Brothers, Jack Griener, Doyle Cotton, Jim Younkin and Joe Corr.

On December 2, 1991 it was registered to the current owner, Ralph Graham of Mendota Heights, Minnesota. It is finished in the red overall colour scheme of Hanfords."
