Messerschmitt Bf 161 V2

06/30/2009. Derived from the Bf 110 B strategic fighter, the private venture three-seat Bf 161 reconnaissance aircraft was first flown on August 30, 1938, carrying the civil registration D-AOFI. It had a lengthened nose for the photographic equipment and it was powered by two 960 hp Daimler-Benz DB 600 Aa engines. The type was not ordered for production, but D-AOFI received the code "CE+BX" and was used for towing the Me 163 A, initially at the companies airfield at Augsburg, later at the Peenemünde-West Luftwaffe test center.
