12/31/2009. Manufactured on June 11, 1941, under BuNo 3872, on July 18, 1942, this aircraft was loaned to 892 Squadron of the RN while based at Norfolk NAS, Virginia. It was returned to the USN on September 12, 1942 and assigned to the USS Wolverine (IX-64) training aircraft carrier, based at Lake Michigan. The aircraft ditched in Lake Michigan on August 17, 1943, and was salvaged 48 years later. It was restored by Navy Museum personnel and put on display in 1997, finished in pre-WW II markings of VF-72.
