Hinz BL2-ARA

02/28/2014. Remarks by Uwe Schirmer: "The BL2-ARA is a development of the BL1-KEA, again designed by husband and wife Dr.-Ing. Bernard and Dipl.-Ing. Lucia Hinz. Design was started in 1992, and in 1993 plans of this development became available for amateur construction. In all twenty sets of plans were sold, resulting in construction of five aircraft being started.

Pictured is the first, and so far, the only aircraft being finished. Constructed during a sixteen year period by Uwe Schirmer (owner), Hermann Brunke and Norbert Fisches, the aircraft was finalized by a maiden flight on July 2, 2009, when Jörg Lohmann took D-EUWE to the air from Aalen Elchingen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, the same airfield as the BL1-KEA first flew twenty years earlier.

D-EUWE is fitted with a 100 hp Rotax 912S engine, driving a Mühlbauer constant-speed propeller. It also received a best original design award, this time during the 2010 Fly-inn of the OUV (Oskar Ursinus Vereinigung, Oskar Ursinus Association, the German Counterpart of the EAA, PFA, etc.). Three more BL2-ARAs are under construction in Germany, the next to fly (later this year) is D-EARA built by Karl-August Wohltmann of Hannover."
